This time of year you may find yourself drawn to hot cider, sweaters and sitting around a campfire. It is also a great time of year to get out and go camping. The weather has cooled down and the leaves are starting to change colors and fall from the tree limbs. There are also many fall festivals across the country to celebrate the season. One of which is right here in our great state of New York. Plan a camping trip to take in the beauty of fall and attend the Flaming Leaves Festival in Lake Placid, NY.
The Flaming Leaves Festival will be held October 6-7, 2012 in Lake Placid, NY. And according to the Today show, it is one of the top five fall festival picks. The Adirondack Park has the longest fall foliage season in Northeast America. The fall leaves peak in mid September through late October.
This two-day annual fall celebration features more attractions and entertainment besides just the turning of leaves. The Flaming Leaves Festival features a competition of North America’s top ski jumpers, blues bands and flame-grilled burgers and ribs. Take part in the horseshoe tournament or leisurely play the many lawn games offered. Browse all the craft vendors or tie-dye a t-shirt. And the best attraction of all is the trip to the top of the 120-meter ski jump where you can take in all the beauty of the fall foliage. A chairlift and elevator ride will get you to the top where you can view the red, orange and yellow of the Adirondack leaves.
The Flaming Leaves Festival is open from 10am-4pm both days and costs $15 for adults and $9 for juniors and seniors. Two-day passes are also available.
