When you get that much-needed break from school and work every spring, you want to spend it wisely. Fortunately, there are tons of unbelievable spring break destinations right here in the United States that you can visit in the comfort of your RV. So forget about pricey plane tickets and hotel stays, and visit some of these awesome bucket list destinations right here in the U.S.

Key Largo, Florida

The RV lifestyle is celebrated in the Florida Keys, where relaxing and having fun is the goal of every day. See breathtaking landscapes, venture out on paddleboards, go fishing, take scuba lessons or just relax in a hammock at your campsite in gorgeous Key Largo. Stay at the Key Largo Kampground and Marina and enjoy easy access to the Atlantic Ocean as well as all of the tropical outdoor activities the Keys have to offer.

Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Escape the freezing temperatures of Minnesota and see our country’s 15th oldest national park. Grand Canyon National Park is a must-visit spring break destination for any RV enthusiasts, and with easy access to cities like Flagstaff and Williams, you can also enjoy other activities like adventure tours, golfing, nightlife and luxurious accommodations. If you don’t want to camp at the Grand Canyon, opt for the Flagstaff KOA or the J and H RV Park to be closer to the action of Flagstaff.

Lake Tahoe, California

Lake Tahoe is known for its stunning scenery in all seasons, but spring is one of the best times of year to enjoy warmer weather on the mountain. Tahoe is home to a number of world-famous ski resorts, including Northstar California, Squaw Valley, Heavenly and Sierra at Tahoe, and nearly all of them stay open until late April. Off the mountain, visitors can enjoy the abundance of eateries, shops and pubs in North Tahoe and Tahoe South.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Myrtle Beach is one of the best places in the U.S. to enjoy an affordable, family-friendly getaway. This coastal South Carolina town offers affordable accommodations, a beachfront RV park (among others) and plenty of downtown fun for kids and adults. Whether you’re hoping to relax with a swim-up bar, see some live music or enjoy fun-filled days with the little ones on roller coasters and water slides, Myrtle Beach offers all of the makings of an unforgettable spring break.

DIY Valentine’s Day Gifts

Valentine's Day Craft with Hearts

When you’re out on the road traveling, sometimes it’s hard to stop in at a store and get a traditional bouquet of roses and box of chocolates with a Hallmark card. We said “traditional,” but you can also say “cliche.” If you really want to wow your Valentine, don’t go the easy route — instead, put some effort and love into your gift by making something yourself. It will be more memorable and, ultimately, more cherished, if you add that personal touch.

Create a Heart Bag

Purchase a basic canvass hand bag in a light neutral tone – khaki is a good choice. Cut out a cardboard heart that fits the face of the bag and place it on the bag. Using red or pink acrylic paint, take a standard pencil and dip its eraser in the paint. Dab the eraser around the outline of the cardboard heart, varying the saturation and weight of application. Once you’ve gone around the cardboard heart to your satisfaction, pull it up and you’ll have a clean heart shape in the middle outlined with an eye-pleasing dappled effect.

Make Your Own Card

All you need is some craft paper and markers to make a basic DIY card, but really the sky’s the limit on how fancy you want to go. With enough imagination and some witty writing to put into it, a DIY card is much better than something store bought as you can truly customize it to match your Valentine and the nature of your relationship.

Bake a Heart-Shaped Cake

Buy your favorite cake mix or make your favorite recipe from scratch – once in a square pan and another time in a rounded pan. After both cakes have been baked, cut the round cake in half and turn the square one onto a corner, then place the round halves onto the diamond so it makes a heart shape. Decorate with frosting and toppings as you see fit!

Get Creative with the Wrapping

If you’re going to wrap your DIY gift, or even if you just bought something at the store, you can also make the wrapping special. One way to do this is to take a sheet of sturdy paper that you’ll use to wrap your gift. Cut out a small heart shape and use it as a stencil to trace hearts on this wrapping paper. After you’ve traced the desired number of hearts, cut along half of each heart shape and then fold back each one so that you’ve got half of the heart acting as a door of sorts. Behind each of these cutouts (on the side of the wrapping paper that will not be visible), tape or glue red glitter paper. Your wrapping paper will now have a distinct, uniquely DIY look to it!

Try These Cherry Recipes in Your RV

Since this is cherry month, you might want to bring the ingredients to make a couple of cherry desserts when you take your RV out. If you don’t plan on going out until later in the spring, these are also great to make at home.

If you are planning on buying an RV this year and are planning your trip now, stop by Jim’s RV Center to walk through our floor plans; and then make a list of everything you need for that first trip.

Cherry Cheesecake

  • 1 8-ounce package of cream cheese, softened
  • 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla extract
  • 1 21-ounce can cherry pie filling

Instructions:

Beat the softened cream cheese, condensed milk, lemon juice and vanilla until well blended. Pour the mixture into the pie crust and chill it for 5 hours. Do no freeze the mixture. Pour the cherry pie filling over the top. Serve.

Fresh Cherry Crisp

  • 4 cups sour cherries, pitted
  • 1 ½ cups sugar, granulated
  • 4 tbs. All-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ c. All-purpose flour
  • 1 c. old-fashioned oats
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • ½ c. butter
  • ½ c. shortening

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Combine the cherries, sugar and 4 tablespoons flour in a large bowl. Pour the mixture into a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish.

Combine 1 ½ cups flour, oats and the brown sugar in a medium bowl. Cut in the butter and shortening until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle the mixture over the cherries.
